First vehicle that comes to mind is the latest powerstroke at 860 lb-ft of torque, starting out at $39,525 (only options selected was the diesel engine), so that is $45.96 per ft-lb of torque. My next thought was the Cummins equipped RAM 2500 HD, if you choose only the 6.7 liter diesel engine it'll set you back $36,470, so at 800 ft-lb of torque we have $45.59 per ft-lb of torque!
Can you find any new car/truck/suv that comes close to these $ per TQ figures?

A Lada with a massive reduction gear, because torque is a measure of force, which is a product of leverage.

Why is this so damn ugly?

If you don't go new...

At 126 ft-lb and $650 that is right at $5.16/ft-lb.

What about a Nissan Leaf? Are you considering torque to weight as part of the metrics?

I was going to make a troll post involving the $/TQ of Briggs lawn mower engines, but it turns out they're just decently competitive and not crushingly so.
Anyway, make a truck powered by 100 Briggs engines, and you have 675 ft-lb on tap. Cost: $17k - unfortunately the ultra-cheap classic 5hp flathead doesn't look to be in production anymore.

Because it's a massive black snout pasted onto a white vehicle.

I was mostly just looking at dollars per tq. This may be more interesting if strictly looking at gasoline engines. Diesels are kind of a shoe-in. And perhaps electric cars too.

Wow. The Powerstrokes are up to 860? That's...a lot.

It'll look sweet in black though

Well that and that the truck's 3rd refresh doesn't match up design wise with the rest of the vehicle at all.

"It'll look less horrible in black though." FIFY

That would be putting it lightly. I also realized, these numbers would be more interesting if it's strictly gasoline engines, because the big diesels are a shoe-in.

Yeah, or on the white one I'd have the grill surround painted white I think.

It's a very unfortunate color combo. With that grill surround in white I bet it'd look leaps and bounds better.

Oh and the Silverado comes in at $51.37 with 765 ft-lb of torque and a price of $39,300.

And I believe the HP is up around the 440 mark now? I can't remember off the top of my head. Sweet trucks.

Found a 250 ft-lbs torque wrench on Amazon for $68.94, which equates to roughly $0.28 per ft-lb.
Am I doin it rite?

But your human body is actually applying the torque for the cost of whatever meal you ate recently :P

A Tradesman with a 5.7 drops the price to $22K, but 410 ft/lb only hits $55.76.

I tried to do the same with an F150 EcoBoost, I think i hit $60.something
